Exquisite rosewood chairs with “violoné” framed rounded cornered backs, arched carved top rail and central upholstered fiddle shaped back splat. Undulating and indented front and side seat rails framing trapezoidal shaped drop-in seats. Pronounced carved knees and cabriole front legs ending in scroll feet and back curving uprights.

Framed back splat of pronounced inner curve on joining the seat rail. Apron and top rail carved in delicate and detailed Rocaille scrolls and vegetal motifs of great accomplishment and virtuosity. Legs joined by H shaped undulating stretchers ending in large scroll feet. Additional turned stretcher joining the back uprights.

The vibrant and controlled quality of the carving and the sophistication and studied proportion of the design define the exceptional quality of these chairs that represent the essence of the D. José period furniture in the extraordinary movement and flamboyance of the Rocaille lines carved out by the Portuguese furniture makers from hard, prime quality Brazilian rosewood timber.
