Ivory box with a straight body and slightly domed lid, from the beginning of the 17th century, Mughal period, originating from Chanderi. Of exceptional quality, it presents a beautiful “patina” with original painting and characteristic Chanderi themes, which is why it is so rare. All faces are painted in gold of its period. It is among the highest quality pieces from the Mughal period. Inside there is a removable shelf, also in ivory, space for an inkwell and compartment for other objects necessary for calligraphy.Silver clasp and corners.

The small town of Chanderi is located in the high, dry mountains of central northern India and is famous for its handlooms, where skilled weavers make exquisite sarees. The inspiration for the patterns is found in the decoration of temples in Chanderi.



Caixa de marfim de corpo direito e tampa ligeiramente abaulada, do inicío do séc.XVII, período Mogol, oriunda de Chanderi. De excepcional qualidade apresenta uma belissíma “patine” com pintura original e com temas característicos de Chanderi, à qual se deve a sua raridade. Todas as faces estão pintadas a ouro da época.

Encontra-se dentro das peças de maior qualidade do período Mogol. No interior possui uma prateleira amovível, também em marfim, lugar para tinteiro e compartimento para outros objectos necessários à caligrafia.

Fecharia e cantoneiras em prata. A pequena cidade de Chanderi situa-se nas montanhas altas e secas na zona central do Norte da Índia e é famosa pelos seus teares manuais, onde exímios tecelões fabricam sofisticados sarees. A inspiração para os padrões é encontrada na decoração dos templos em Chanderi.
